Butterfly

It is easy, when wandering in the New Forest, on Hengistbury Head or on the Southbourne Overcliff, to look only at the main features of the landscape, the trees, the sweep of Christchurch Bay or the carpet of golden heather or gorse. Yet, in doing so, sometimes we miss many things that, although small, are really beautiful.

Today, I give you a photo I took recently of a butterfly which allowed me to get really close as it enjoyed the pollen of the flower it rested upon. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I tend not to regularly employ staff for Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast. Frankly, our prices are so low in order to provide our visitors with bargain discounts that staff costs are not really feasible. Also, like my husband, Noel, with his painting and decorating services, I am so meticulous about cleanliness and tidiness that staff have difficulty coming up to my high standards.

I firmly believe that to get the best results sometimes it is necessary to get down on your hands and knees and that applies to photography as well as cleaning.

So, if you see the back end of a woman on Hengistbury Head or Southbourne Overcliff with her nose and camera at ground level, you could well be looking at me.

Just don’t laugh, like my kids do … Promise!

The Southbourne Overcliff is wonderful for those special secret places that people can share, return to and remember in the dark nights of winter. Today, I thought I would share with you some of the nicer places to sit, rest and enjoy the scenery on Southbourne Overcliff.

Many of the seats on Southbourne Overcliff have names of people on them in remembrance so I suspect that many people have enjoyed these secret places before myself.

Much of the Southbourne Overcliff is left in a very natural state, with trees growing in abundance which adds to the atmosphere.

So, if you are planning a relaxing day out, consider a visit to the Southbourne Overcliff. It’s a great place to take someone for a chat and to spend some restful moments watching nature and the waves go by.

Although I am not a botanists, I do love flowers. They cheer me up and make the day seem a little brighter and, if I see some nice flowers or plants when I go walking on Southbourne Overcliff, after doing the breakfasts at Newpoint Hotel bed and breakfast guest house, I like to stop a while and enjoy them.

Today I thought I’d share this flower with you that I photographed on Southbourne Overcliff recently. My husband, who knows far more about flowers and plants than I, tells me it is a Hottentot Fig.

There is also a Bournemouth Council run children’s recreation and play area with slides and swings besides the crazy golf centre.

If the kids have still got the energy, there is always the beach just down the zigzag for them to run off their steam.

As with all attractions and activities, availability may be subject to seasonal variations and it is advisable to check before committing to avoid disappointment.
