This morning I was feeling all philosophical, as I took a short break between making the breakfasts and making the beds at Newpoint Hotel, and I was thinking about ’sound’.
It may seem obvious but sound is with us wherever we go and very often we are not even aware of how it’s affecting us.
It sets the mood; like soft music for a candle lit dinner, the sound of birds during a walk on Hengistbury Head in Dorset or the sound of waves rippling or crashing on the shores of Bournemouth and Southbourne sandy beaches.
Sometimes sounds are extreme. I hear the Littledown Firework display in November is now in three parts with a rainbow display at 7pm, a family display at 8pm and a white knuckle display at 9pm. I remember going to firework displays with my kids when they were very little and how they were frightened and huddled into my shoulders, so it’s probably a good idea.
Sound can be so soothing. Sometimes, when I’m tired, I think of the waves lapping on the shore of the Southbourne beaches on a crisp November day, when all around is deserted and there is only myself, the sand, the sound of the waves and the cry of the seagulls.
Well, I did warn you I was feeling philosophical this morning, didn’t I?
I’d best get on. There’s work to be done and, hopefully, there will be the sound of the telephone ringing soon from people who want to book in November and enjoy the quiet deserted beaches too.
Bye for now
Christine
