Prompted by the discovery of World Movies channel on Sky TV (channel 331) which is currently showing lots of foreign and art films, I thought I would check out the local art film scene and was amazed to find out how much is going on.

Not only is there the Arts Institute at Bournemouth offering courses in film making and Bournemouth University offering Media Studies but there is also the Purbeck Film Festival from Friday 10th to Saturday 25th October 2008 which is taking place at various places including Bournemouth and Poole (details may be subject to change so check their web site or phone them to confirm).

At the end of a long day greeting guests, cleaning and cooking English breakfasts (with vegetarian option if you prefer), I must confess that I quite like to put my feet up and watch a good film. Sometimes the Hollywood blockbusters are all right but art films do seem to offer a little bit more in the way of substance and the subtitles don’t worry me on Sky TV’s World Movies channel.
